Australia Day, the nation celebrates and reflects

26 JANUARY 2022

Sydney Harbour takes centre-stage on Australia Day for the Ferrython, Australia Day Live, Australia Day Parade, Tall Ships Race, Australia Day Regatta, Tug and Boat Ballet, flyovers, fireworks and more. Discover our range of Australia Day cruises. The national day is currently held on 26 January, on the anniversary of the landing of the British First Fleet led by Captain Arthur Phillip. The date may change in future years, but for now it remains a spectacular finale to the Summer holidays and the Sydney Festival.

Our island home, past and present

On Australia Day, we acknowledge the Indigenous Australians who have lived on our island nation for over 65,000 years, the Gadigal people of Sydney and the millions of immigrants who have come from around the world to call Australia home. Our national day of reflection and celebration is constantly evolving, as we as a nation grow. One thing millions of Australians agree, is the best place to celebrate all that makes Australia wonderful is on our spectacular harbour.
