Official Vivid Sydney 'Harbour Lights' vessels
MV Sydney 2000 and MV John Cadman II are official Vivid Sydney `Harbour Lights’ participating vessels. MV John Cadman carries the ‘#ilovesydney’ lighting installation and MV Sydney 2000 the ‘Vivid Sydney’ installation. Both vessels travel through a spectrum of light as they cruise the Vivid Sydney Harbour precincts. 

Vivid Sydney 2017

The centrepieces to Vivid Sydney are the spectacular light installations along the harbour foreshore from the Sydney Opera House in Circular Quay to Darling Harbour. In 2017 the world's largest festival of light, music and ideas will shine bright with its biggest program yet.

  • An expanded and exciting music program including Boy George, Goldfrapp, AIR and Nick Murphy
  • Inclusion of new city precinct Barangaroo
  • ‚ÄčExpanded Royal Botanic Garden Sydney footprint
  • Award-winning, Australian-first global speakers at Vivid Ideas
  • Over 40 brightly lit ferries and vessels including the Captain Cook Cruises fleet adorning the harbour offering passengers a view of the huge canvas of lights 

SYDNEY HARBOUR & FORESHORE

  • Vivid Light Walk
    • More than 70 interactive light installations hugging the foreshore nightly from 6.00pm to 11.00pm
  • Harbour Lights
    • A select number of vessels, including Captain Cook Cruises, will be illuminated by brilliant LED lights that change colour as the vessels travel into different harbour zones.These ‘colour precincts’ will create a dazzling spectacle 
  • Vivid from the Water - A great range of cruises to take in the Vivid Lights from a unique vantage point - on the water!

DARLING HARBOUR & PYRMONT

  • Cockle Bay
    • Magicians of the Mist: This spectacular audio visual display will wow spectators with up to twenty-eight tonnes of water bring thrown into the air every minute, whilst an abundance of flame jets and powerful lasers combine in a spectacular display of technology and art. Performances nightly from 6.00pm to 11.00pm throughout Vivid
  • Barangaroo
    • Become part of the artwork with A day in the light, an outdoor trail of colourful light and sound through Barangaroo. Be amazed as the optical illusions of Trapdoor reveal the stories of Barangaroo's past

CIRCULAR QUAY, THE ROCKS & SURROUNDS

  • This year's highlight is "Dreamscape" - a large, 3D, interactive lighting display that will link precincts from the Sydney Opera House to the Sydney Harbour Bridge into one cohesive canvas of light 
  • Sydney Opera House
    • Audio Creatures, the work of the acclaimed artist Ash Bolland, brings the sails of iconic Sydney Opera House to life through a series of living and breathing imaginary creatures. You can also begin the Vivid Light walk from the Sydney Opera House 
  • The Rocks
    • The birthplace of Vivid Sydney will feature two of Sydney's iconic buildings, the MCA, a Vivid Sydney favourite, and Cadman's Cottage will again feature spectacular projections
  • Sydney Harbour Bridge
    • Eora-Bennelong, one of Australia's most celebrated individuals, will be honoured with a visual light display on the southern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge 

CITY PRECINCTS

  • Royal Botanic Gardens - 3D mapped projections and a tunnel of tens of thousands LED lights
  • Taronga Zoo - Back for 2017, Be the Light for the Wild is comprised of giant multimedia light sculptures. Please note this is a ticketed event. 
  • Martin Place - Light installations, code-driven light shows and divine fare from Sydney’s hippest purveyors of food and beverage
  • Chatswood - the CBD will be reinvented as a retro-futuristic smart city, inspired by the 'Steampunk' design aesthetic of 19th century steam-powered machinery 
  • Kings Cross - For the first time, Kings Cross will transform into an exciting new colourful precinct called Vivid KX, celebrating exactly what makes Kings Cross so special - diversity, creativity, equality and community
