Official Vivid Sydney 'Harbour Lights' vessels
MV Sydney 2000 and MV John Cadman II are official Vivid Sydney `Harbour Lights’ participating vessels. MV John Cadman carries the ‘#ilovesydney’ lighting installation and MV Sydney 2000 the ‘Vivid Sydney’ installation. Both vessels travel through a spectrum of light as they cruise the Vivid Sydney Harbour precincts. 

 

Vivid Sydney 2018

The centrepieces to Vivid Sydney are the spectacular light installations along the harbour foreshore from the Sydney Opera House in Circular Quay to Darling Harbour. In 2018 the world's largest festival of light, music and ideas will shine bright to celebrate its 10th anniversary with its biggest program yet.

  • An expanded and exciting music program including Grammy Award Winning artists St. Vincent and Solange, rapper Ice Cube, and iconic Australian artists Daniel Johns and Luke Steele
  • Inclusion of new precinct Luna Park
  • The much-loved Customs House returns​
  • Award-winning, Australian-first global speakers at Vivid Ideas, including film-maker James Cameron
  • Over 40 brightly lit ferries and vessels including the Captain Cook Cruises fleet adorning the harbour offering passengers a view of the huge canvas of lights 

SYDNEY HARBOUR & FORESHORE 2018

  • Vivid Light Walk
    • Extending to new precinct Luna Park in 2018, more than 60 dazzling interactive light installations will hug the foreshore nightly from 6.00pm to 11.00pm
  • Harbour Lights
    • A select number of vessels, including Captain Cook Cruises, will be illuminated by brilliant LED lights that change colour as the vessels travel into different harbour zones.These ‘colour precincts’ will create a dazzling spectacle 
  • Vivid from the Water - A great range of cruises to take in the Vivid Lights from a unique vantage point - on the water!

DARLING HARBOUR & BARANGAROO 2018

  • Cockle Bay
    • Ocean Fantastic - This spectacular art-meets-technology water fountain, light and laser experience will take visitors into a dream-like diver under the water
  • Barangaroo
    • Experience the art of puppetry with a giant luminescent puppet, operated by a team of performers, venturing along the waterfront in a highly theatrical display of sound and light

CIRCULAR QUAY, THE ROCKS & SURROUNDS 2018

  • Sydney Opera House
    • Metamathemagical, the work of the award-winning Australian artist Jonathan Zawada, will draw eyes to the sails of iconic Sydney Opera House through a bold and dynamic display of morphing digital sculptures inspired by recognisable Australian motifs. You can also begin the Vivid Light walk from the Sydney Opera House 
  • The Rocks
    • The birthplace of Vivid Sydney will feature two of Sydney's iconic buildings, the MCA, a Vivid Sydney favourite, and the ASN Co. Building will also feature spectacular projections
  • Sydney Harbour Bridge
    • Projected onto the Southern Pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, EORA - Dark Emu, will explore the legend of the Spirit Emu, a story told through Bangarra Dance Theatre's unique physical language
  • Customs House
    • Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, May Gibbs' iconic and immortal characters, will come to life on the facade of Customs House in celebration of their 100 year anniversary 

CITY PRECINCTS 2018

  • Royal Botanic Gardens - Wander through enchanting, nocturnal environment light installations such as the 'Nautilus Forest' and 'Parrot Party' to name a few
  • Taronga Zoo - Back for 2018, Lights for the Wild is comprised of giant multimedia light sculptures. Please note this is a ticketed event. 
  • Chatswood - the CBD concourse will take visitors on a mesmerising, deep dive into space featuring NASA's amazing imagery and 360-degree projection
  • Kings Cross - The Coca-Cola sign lights up again for 2018 and transform the streets of King's Cross into an exciting new colourful precinct called Vivid KX, celebrating exactly what makes Kings Cross so special - diversity, creativity, equality and community
