Vivid Sydney 2016

The centrepieces to Vivid Sydney are the spectacular light installations along the harbour foreshore from the Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay to Darling Harbour. In 2016 the world's largest festival of light, music and ideas will shine bright with its biggest program yet.

  • Over 80 light installations and 200 artists
  • An expanded and exciting music program including Björk, New Order and Bon Iver
  • Expansion into new city precincts The Royal Botanic Gardens and Taronga Zoo
  • Award-winning, Australian-first global speakers at Vivid Ideas
  • Over 40 brightly lit ferries and vessels including the Captain Cook Cruises fleet adorning the harbour offering passengers a view of the huge canvas of lights 

SYDNEY HARBOUR & FORESHORE

  • Vivid Light Walk
    • More than 80 interactive light installations hugging the foreshore nightly from 6.00pm to 11.00pm
  • Harbour Lights
    • A select number of vessels, including Captain Cook Cruises, will be illuminated by brilliant LED lights that change colour as the vessels travel into different harbour zones.These ‘colour precincts’ will create a dazzling spectacle 
  • Vivid from the Water - A great range of cruises to take in the Vivid Lights from a unique vantage point - on the water!

DARLING HARBOUR & PYRMONT

  • Cockle Bay
    • Vivid Laser Dragon Water Theatre: This spectacular audio visual display will wow spectators with four viedo-projected water-screens, 56 fountains and an abundance of flame jets and powerful lasers, creating awe-inspiring effects featuring ferocious dragons and laughing clowns. Performances nightly from 6.00pm to 11.00pm throughout Vivid
    • Fireworks displays in Cockle Bay will continue throughout Vivid Sydney on Saturday Nights at 8:30pm and from 7pm on selected Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
  • Australian National Maritime Museum
    • Nautilus and the Sea - The maritime museum’s expansive 1,700m2 rooftop transforms into an under the sea fantasy cool, bold light show. Influenced by the journey of Norbert the Nautilus

CIRCULAR QUAY, THE ROCKS & SURROUNDS

  • This year's highlight is "Dress Circle" - a cutting-edge, interactive illumination of the Sydney skyline and for the first time ever, the eastern side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge
  • Sydney Opera House
    • "Songlines" will depict Australian Indigenous art and culture and is one of Vivid's Sydney's all time favourite displays as the sails of the Opera House explode in a cascade of colour. You can also begin the Vivid Light walk from the Opera House with two lighting installations onsite
  • The Rocks
    • The birthplace of Vivid Sydney will feature two of Sydney's iconic buildings, the MCA, a Vivid Sydney favourite, and Cadman's Cottage will again feature spectacular projections
  • Sydney Harbour Bridge
    • State-of-the-art software and 100,000 individually programmed low-energy LED lights in 1,600 LED tubes to paint the Bridge in a fantastic array of colours, movements and effects
  • Customs House
    • The face of this historic building will once again come to life this time through adventurous blue-tounge lizard, Bluey, who will explore "Sydney's Hidden Stories"

CITY PRECINCTS

  • Royal Botanic Gardens - 3D mapped projections and a 60-metre long tunnel of tens of thousands LED lights
  • Taronga Zoo - Be the Light for the Wild is comprised of giant multimedia light sculptures. Please note this is a ticketed event. 
  • The Galeries - Video projections and light installations 
  • Martin Place - Light installations, code-driven light shows and divine fare from Sydney’s hippest purveyors of food and beverage
  • Central Park - Light Projections and silent disco on selected nights
  • Chatswood - WildLight - The Bio-Kinetic City a 3D Projections
