Service: My wife and I travelled to Sydney from WA for NYE for a 2 day stay in Sydney. Our time was obviously very precious so we watched the fireworks then decided to spend our second day at Taronga Zoo as we had not visited it before.
We booked online and paid a premium price for the Zoo express ride, entry to the zoo via the sky safari cable car. Unfortunately our ticket did not have a time on it and when we checked the departure time online we found the ferry left Darling Harbour at 9.25am. We went to the Designated departure wharf and found a sign on the door of the Captain Cook Cruise office to say the cruise wouldn’t commence until 11.00am because it was New Years Day. We couldn’t find that information online but decided to wait anyway with many other confused tourists. At 10:45 a CCC employee came to the queue of people and advised the ferry was held up and would arrive at 11.05am we waited and waited while she tried to be cheerful about the frustration tourists were feeling. The boat finally arrived and we departed at 11:26. The cheerful staff member asked another staff member to check if anyone needed to get off at Circular Quay if not we could go express to the zoo. Unfortunately the only person who required to get off was a Captain Cook Cruise employee. By the time we got to the zoo the queue was very long. It took approximately an hour to even get into the zoo. We only stayed 1.5 hours and made our way back to the ferry only to have to wait AGAIN for the ferry that was 20 minutes late. Our very precious time in Sydney on NY day was spent wasting our time in queues.
We fully appreciate that it was NewYears Day but surely if Captain Cook Cruises knew it was going to be so busy wouldn’t you start early rather than 2 hours late and at least have the courtesy to be on time?

On another matter: We paid a sustainable amount of money to see the fireworks in front of the Opera House and were told the boats are not allowed to “park” in the exclusion zone during the fireworks display. I have a photo of a Captain a Cook Cruise boat “parked” right in front of us for sometime during the midnight fireworks. Most annoying
Product: This was hardly “Express”. It left very late and made a stop before getting to the zoo

Response from Captain Cook Cruises: Dear Customer,

Thank you very much for your feedback. Like many businesses in Australia, our operating schedule is affected on public holidays. As any other ferry operator in the harbour, we unfortunately depend on traffic and weather conditions to operate which can be affected by unforeseen circumstances. For that reason, we update our timetable and communicate with customers to try to be as reliable as we can. We do apologise sincerely for the inconvenience. As you know we value customer feedback. therefore your comments were forwarded to the relevant managers on that matter.

Thank you once again for your feedback.

Kind Regards,
Head of Customer Service
Captain Cook Cruise

Service: Service was very easy and quick from booking all through to collecting boarding passes - will use them again in future.
Product: The experience was awesome - booking online was easy and convenient and collecting our tickets at the office was also a breeze, no issues at all and my family really enjoyed the trip to Taronga Zoo. The only downside to this day was when we caught our ferry back to Circular Quay. There were so many people trying to get back and there was no proper order so everyone was just pushing trying to get on the ferry and unfortunately the ferry was too small and could only take 58 passengers per trip. I've given a 3 star rating because I think the company needs to reconsider using the bigger ferry at the end of the day to avoid issues like this. Families were trying to get back after a long hot day and the last thing they need is to be stranded because the ferry was not big enough to accommodate the number of passengers.

From the easy online booking to the great range of services available our overall experience was great. The 2 different vessels we travelled on were fast, clean and comfortable. The regular services meant we had a great choice of times to travel.

Service: I found the process booking with Captain Cook Cruises very easy to do online but it said the booking reference email needed to be printed, which our hotel did, but it's somewhat inconvenient when visiting as a tourist. Perhaps they could just allow showing the email on your mobile in future? They made it easy to find which wharf the Taronga Zoo ferry was leaving from and both boats we went on were great. Staff were very friendly and made it a fun day out.
Product: Great way to combine ferry and zoo entry together. Certainly the easiest way to visit the zoo and going on a quick, clean ferry was fun for all of us. We'd definitely do it again and recommend others choosing this option.
