Service: My wife and I travelled to Sydney from WA for NYE for a 2 day stay in Sydney. Our time was obviously very precious so we watched the fireworks then decided to spend our second day at Taronga Zoo as we had not visited it before.
We booked online and paid a premium price for the Zoo express ride, entry to the zoo via the sky safari cable car. Unfortunately our ticket did not have a time on it and when we checked the departure time online we found the ferry left Darling Harbour at 9.25am. We went to the Designated departure wharf and found a sign on the door of the Captain Cook Cruise office to say the cruise wouldn’t commence until 11.00am because it was New Years Day. We couldn’t find that information online but decided to wait anyway with many other confused tourists. At 10:45 a CCC employee came to the queue of people and advised the ferry was held up and would arrive at 11.05am we waited and waited while she tried to be cheerful about the frustration tourists were feeling. The boat finally arrived and we departed at 11:26. The cheerful staff member asked another staff member to check if anyone needed to get off at Circular Quay if not we could go express to the zoo. Unfortunately the only person who required to get off was a Captain Cook Cruise employee. By the time we got to the zoo the queue was very long. It took approximately an hour to even get into the zoo. We only stayed 1.5 hours and made our way back to the ferry only to have to wait AGAIN for the ferry that was 20 minutes late. Our very precious time in Sydney on NY day was spent wasting our time in queues.
We fully appreciate that it was NewYears Day but surely if Captain Cook Cruises knew it was going to be so busy wouldn’t you start early rather than 2 hours late and at least have the courtesy to be on time?

On another matter: We paid a sustainable amount of money to see the fireworks in front of the Opera House and were told the boats are not allowed to “park” in the exclusion zone during the fireworks display. I have a photo of a Captain a Cook Cruise boat “parked” right in front of us for sometime during the midnight fireworks. Most annoying
Product: This was hardly “Express”. It left very late and made a stop before getting to the zoo

Service: Service was very easy and quick from booking all through to collecting boarding passes - will use them again in future.
Product: The experience was awesome - booking online was easy and convenient and collecting our tickets at the office was also a breeze, no issues at all and my family really enjoyed the trip to Taronga Zoo. The only downside to this day was when we caught our ferry back to Circular Quay. There were so many people trying to get back and there was no proper order so everyone was just pushing trying to get on the ferry and unfortunately the ferry was too small and could only take 58 passengers per trip. I've given a 3 star rating because I think the company needs to reconsider using the bigger ferry at the end of the day to avoid issues like this. Families were trying to get back after a long hot day and the last thing they need is to be stranded because the ferry was not big enough to accommodate the number of passengers.

From the easy online booking to the great range of services available our overall experience was great. The 2 different vessels we travelled on were fast, clean and comfortable. The regular services meant we had a great choice of times to travel.

Service: I found the process booking with Captain Cook Cruises very easy to do online but it said the booking reference email needed to be printed, which our hotel did, but it's somewhat inconvenient when visiting as a tourist. Perhaps they could just allow showing the email on your mobile in future? They made it easy to find which wharf the Taronga Zoo ferry was leaving from and both boats we went on were great. Staff were very friendly and made it a fun day out.
Product: Great way to combine ferry and zoo entry together. Certainly the easiest way to visit the zoo and going on a quick, clean ferry was fun for all of us. We'd definitely do it again and recommend others choosing this option.

Service: We had a mixed day with Captain Cook Cruises. We purposely timed our Zoo and Whale Watching day to start at 9:15 because their website listed departure times from Darling Harbor at 9:15 and 9:45. To get ample time at the zoo, we hoped to take the earlier boat. We arrived at the counter/dock at 9:05 and were told that the next boat left at 9:45 and the last one had just left at 9:00 (we watched it leave the dock). We were disappointed to have lost that 30 minutes and the woman working the counter was not at all apologetic (which really wouldn't change anything, but might have felt nice) nor did she make any effort to check the website and verify their error. We were given tickets each for the 9:45 boat, for the zoo, and for the 1:30 whale watching boat. We wasted time around the dock and got on the 9:45 boat and arrived at the zoo around 10:20. It would have been helpful if the CCC website would clarify both departure and arrival times. The zoo was great and we went to the dock to catch the whale watching boat at 1:30. Once at the dock we were told our boat would arrive at 1:45. Not a big deal because the timing was moot once we got on their boat, but frustrating. We headed out to sea, and though it was totally outside of CCC's hands, the wind was crazy and we were rocking back and forth at 45 degree angles. There were great guides/crew on the boat telling us what we should expect to see once we got out to our spot. Unfortunately about half way out, we were told we had to turn around and head back due to the weather. Again, not at all the fault of CCC, but disappointing. Back at Circular Quay we talked to the counter agent who quickly moved us all through the line and told us we'd be refunded the whale watching portion in the coming weeks. I'm not sure if we've been refunded yet (5 days later) but I'll keep watching our CC statement. I would give CCC a chance again, but might just call to verify timing of things and watch the weather a bit more closely.
Product: The boat was nice, getting on and off was easy. It made two unexpected (to us) stops but kept things moving pretty quickly.

Service: The ferry trip was good, the crew gave a great service to the customers.
The customer service on land is not precisely the best. The information available online is not the same that they gave us on the day of the trip.
Product: I went for the first time to this zoo 5 years ago and I was amazed by its beauty. This time was so different, the zoo looks old, and there are a lot of works going on. Not many animals.

Response from Captain Cook Cruises: Dear Customer,
Thank you for your review of your Captain Cook Cruises experience. We are glad to hear you were pleased with the service you experienced on board. However, we are disappointed that you did not find the ticket service to be as helpful. Our departure points and information are listed on our website, and our reservation staff are happy to help with any enquiry’s customers may have. We provide transportation to the zoo and do not have any connection to the running of the zoo or the animals they have available.
Thank you once again for your feedback.

Service: First time using any ferry service in Sydney: the Zoo Express combo is fuss-free. Front desk staff was helpful, especially when I approached them one day before with my online booking: she (sorry: did not pay attention to her name) proactively printed my tickets, and explained the ferry schedule. Boarding was seamless, although some kind of signal to know that the vessel is ready for boarding and push-off would have been useful. The vessels are well-maintained and spacious. Overall, I've been recommending your ferry service.
Product: The Zoo Express combo was exactly what I was looking for, just to break away from an otherwise working weekend away from home. Online booking process was self-explanatory. Follow-up at the counter was easy (see above comments). Use of major credit cards (and PayPal?). My colleagues from China, however, would have benefited from AliPay or WeChat Pay: food for thought.

Service: I must say my experience was unsatisfactory. We purchased two cruises on the 26th of January. The first, a small vessel participating in the boat ballet, was great. But when we showed up for a ferry to Taronga Zoo for a 2:35 departure from Circular Quay, we were very disappointed to find the service ended at 1:45. I understand we were to have "looked more closely at the schedule" as we were told, but I think the organization doesn't understand that tourists don't read these things regularly and to a novice it was not clear. There could have been much better warning about the limitations in your service. We didn't see 2 hours at the zoo as being "not worth it" as we were told. It all seemed somewhat deceptive.
Product: It is easy to misinterpret the schedule if you are not familiar with reading ferry schedules. In my opinion, the company should make more of an effort to warn people of easy mistakes. I took considerable time trying to understand Australia Day schedule differences from normal schedule and still made a huge blunder that dramatically changed our plans for the day.

Response from Captain Cook Cruises: Dear customer,

Thank you for the review of your experience of your Cruise. We are pleased that you enjoyed your Boat Ballet Cruise on Australia Day. All information regarding timetables can be found on our website, which we update as soon as possible to give our customers accurate information. We also encourage our customers to contact our reservations team if they have any questions or inquiries regarding any information for their cruise.
