Cruise and Dine Sydney Harbour with Penfolds

There is no finer dining experience on Sydney Harbour. Exclusive to Captain Cook Cruises is the Sydney Gold Penfolds Dinner Cruise. This signature experience offers guests a six-course degustation paired with wines from Penfold’s private bin and vintage wines, served onboard the air-conditioned super-cruiser Sydney 2000.

It is a memorable and exclusive experience for foodies, wine lovers and travellers alike.

All the views

This fine dining experience is much more than dining with water views; it’s dining with all the views on the best harbour in the world. Sydney Harbour is just stunning, during the day and at night. From your table, by the window, you will enjoy uninterrupted views of all that Sydney Harbour has on show.

During the two to a three-hour experience, you will take a leisurely cruise on the harbour's calm waters, passing internationally revered attractions such as the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

There are no finer views from the water than the Sydney Harbour Bridge backlit by the burnished sunset, the comical façade of Luna Park, or the night lights that enhance the single-span engineering. Cruising past the unique architecture of the Sydney Opera House holds a special romance. Even for locals, it is always iconic.

Flexible Boarding Options

Appreciating that you have lots going on in your day, whether you are visiting Sydney or a resident making the most of harbour life, Captain Cook Cruises offers flexible boarding from multiple harbourside locations. This means you can plan dinner around your day, not your day around your dinner cruise departure. Choose from up to four departures from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm with a choice of embarkation points at Circular Quay on Sydney Harbour and Darling Harbour at King St Wharf. All are within walking distance from the city’s harbourside hotel precincts.

Take your clients straight from work or meet your significant other for a drink at the Opera Bar first for a special celebration or pre-cruise drink.

Your onboard experience

Captain Cook Cruises’ 5-star service begins from the moment you step onboard. Escorted to the Sky Deck to take in all the views, you’ll be greeted with canapés and a glass of sparkling wine and taken to your table, where you will enjoy personalised, attentive service.

When you sit to dine, you are guaranteed a table by the window to take in the views as you enjoy each course of the degustation menu and cruise Sydney Harbour. The relaxing ambience, accompanied by a pianist, makes for a memorable experience.

The Gold Penfolds dinner menu

Captain Cook Cruises are serious about their menus. The produce you will savour on your Gold Penfolds dinner menu showcases the freshest of Australia’s produce and seafood. You may not know that each dish is chef-prepared onboard in a full restaurant kitchen by the talented culinary team and served at your table.

Add the ambience of a pianist and the best seat in the restaurant to enjoy the attractions that make Sydney Harbour the best harbour in the world, and you have Sydney’s best dining experience.

The Penfolds wine pairing

On the menu, Penfolds wine pairing gives a nod to Max Schubert’s tenacious and daring ambition for Penfolds and Australian wine. While the seasonal menu will change, the Gold Penfolds Dinner dishes are paired with wines from Penfold’s Max’s - a series that celebrates his passion. For example, Penfold’s Max’s Rose, paired with seared scallops lime foam, pays homage to Max’s love of the lively rose he discovered as a young winemaker visiting Europe. A fragrant herb salad is paired with the citrus-edged and finger lime sweetness of Penfold Max’s Chardonnay, while a casarecce pasta has a perfect match in the medium-bodied, plum-hued Penfolds Max’s Shiraz Cabernet. Penfold’s time honoured St. Henri Shiraz with its stone fruit notes and depth on the palette complements an Angus centre-cut tenderloin served with sautéed mushrooms and a rich jus. Dessert, perhaps a Black Violet cheesecake, is accompanied by Penfold’s refined Father 10YO Tawny Port.

The Penfolds story

Just 56 years after the English settlement on Sydney Harbour in 1788 in South Australia, Penfold’s founder’s Dr Christopher and Mary Penfold, planted their first vines. They had transported these from England on their voyage to the free colony of South Australia. The year was 1844, the beginning of Penfolds at the Magill Estate, just 8 kilometres (5 miles) from Adelaide. The rest they say is history - the story of Chief Winemaker Max Schubert’s journey with the iconic Penfold’s Grange is as dramatic as any great story, with a happy ending in 2008 when the renowned 2008 Vintage was awarded a perfect score by two of the worlds most influential wine magazines. A member of the Ultimate Winery Attractions of Australia, a visit to the cellar door at the Magill Estate is a must for oenophiles visiting South Australia.

The perfect celebration

When the occasion demands that every detail matters, the Gold Penfolds Dinner cruise is the experience to choose. A romantic dinner for two to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, a final hoorah on Sydney Harbour before you return home interstate or overseas. Consider a private dining room onboard for a group of 10 or 60 to celebrate life’s achievements with family and friends. This premium dining experience offers more than a few memorable moments.
