MELBOURNE CUP LUNCH CRUISE - Tuesday 1st November 2016
The big day is fast approaching. Secure your seats today and celebrate in style.
Melbourne Cup Program (subject to change):
The first Melbourne Cup was held in 1861 and won by "Archer", a horse from Nowra NSW who had walked 800km to get to the race. Archer's owner collected £170 and a gold watch. Today the winner takes home over 3 million dollars and approximately half of the horses are from overseas stables.
Two race horses have cemented their places in the hearts of the nation. During the Great Depression, "Phar Lap" was so good that racing officials changed the rules to make the race more of a contest, with no effect. In 1930 he won the Melbourne Cup at the record low odds of 8-11 (1.73). In 2005, "Makybe Diva" became the only horse to win three Melbourne Cups, and in consecutive years.
